1940
Wabash Valley Eggs | Jerome Seger
1947: Jerry Seger returned to Dubois, IN
After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Business Administration, Jerry Seger returned to Dubois, IN, to join his father in the family’s business interests, leading to the founding of Wabash Valley Produce.

1947-1964: Jerry and Lila had Eight Sons

Jerry and Lila Seger married and had eight sons.  All the boys followed in their parents’ footsteps, graduating from Indiana University.  They became shareholders and have been active with Wabash Valley Produce, forming the 2nd generation leadership group.  Two members of this group remain active in their senior management / leadership roles with the company today.

1966: New Feed Mill and Egg Grading Plant

Wabash Valley Produce constructed a new feed mill and egg grading plant on our present site in Dubois, IN.  The Seger Family acquired 100% ownership from early partners and modernized these facilities in the ensuing years.

1970s: Significant Growth

Wabash Valley Produce experienced significant growth and built numerous pullet and laying hen complexes in the Dubois, IN, area with the assistance of contract growers and business partners.

1980: First Egg Breaking Facility Built

Wabash Valley built its first egg breaking facility in Dubois, IN, and entered the egg products business in partnership with a major customer.

Wabash Valley Plant
1985: Acquired Brown Produce Company in Farina, IL

Wabash Valley Produce acquired Brown Produce Company of Farina, IL, from Kroger, establishing its second egg products plant.  Wabash also acquired a feed mill nearby and secured land to build layer houses for its Farina Farms site.

1990
Wabash Valley Ballas Eggs Zanesville Ohio
1994: Acquired Ballas Egg Products in Zanesville, OH

Wabash Valley Produce acquired Ballas Egg Products of Zanesville, OH, from the Ballas Family, establishing its third egg products plant. The Ballas acquisition added dried eggs to the Seger Family’s portfolio of liquid and frozen egg products.

Late 1990s / Early 2000s: Growth in Egg Products

Following Jerry Seger’s passing, leadership for Wabash Valley Produce transitioned to the 2nd generation Seger Family owners.  The company continued to drive significant growth in egg products, developing partnerships with many leading global food brands.  The decision was ultimately made to exit shell egg grading in favor of continued egg products expansion.
